Before You Go: Everything You Need to Know!

What’s the currency?

The Euro is used in Malta, Sicily, and Sardinia.
Turkey uses the Turkish Lira (TRY). ATMs are widely available across all destinations, and cards are accepted in most places. No need to travel with large amounts of cash, and no, even if you had a million Euros, passports aren’t part of the package.

Do I need to learn the local lingo?

Malta speaks Maltese, but English is widely spoken and effortlessly charming. Sicily and Sardinia speak Italian, with strong local dialects adding flavour. In Turkey, Turkish is the local language, but English is commonly spoken in hotels, restaurants and tourist areas. A smile, a few polite words and a sense of humour go a long way.

What’s the weather like?

All destinations are blessed with sunshine. Malta, Sicily, and Sardinia enjoy hot, dry summers, with August–September temperatures around 28–30°C. Turkey is similarly warm, with summer temperatures often sitting in the high 20s to low 30s, especially in Istanbul and coastal regions. Expect blue skies, long days, and plenty of excuses for SPF 50.

Can I drink the tap water?

Technically yes in most places, but your taste buds may object. Bottled water is inexpensive and readily available across all destinations, including Turkey. Wine, beer and Turkish tea tend to be far more popular choices.

Which power adapter do I need?

Malta: Type G, Sicily & Sardinia: Type F or L, Turkey: Type FVoltage is 230V everywhere. The electricity generally behaves… with the occasional Mediterranean or Turkish personality quirk.

What are the shopping hours?

Mediterranean destinations love a good break. In Malta, Sicily, and Sardinia, shops often open 9am–1pm, then 4pm–7/8pm, especially outside major tourist areas. In Turkey, shops tend to stay open longer, particularly in cities like Istanbul, where shopping can extend well into the evening. Flexibility is key and so is embracing the slower pace when it appears..

How do we get around?

That’s entirely on us. From Malta’s historic streets to Sicily’s dramatic landscapes, Sardinia’s coastal roads, and Turkey’s vibrant cities, all transport is taken care of. Expect comfortable vehicles, professional drivers and seamless logistics, so you can relax, look out the window, and enjoy the journey.

What’s the deal with tipping?

Tipping is appreciated but not mandatory. In Malta, Sicily, and Sardinia, 5–10% for good service is standard. In Turkey, tipping is more customary, particularly in restaurants and for guides, though still at your discretion.
And yes, kindness toward your tour guide is always encouraged.

What should I pack?

Comfortable walking shoes are essential, think cobblestones, ancient ruins, bazaars and village streets. Modest clothing is recommended for churches and mosques. Pack light layers, sun protection, and an open mind, you’ll use all of them.
